I just found my diary from my July trip to NYC with illegible scribblings; it kinda looks like a doctor’s prescription pad. I think I tried to be tidy to begin with, but I just got caught up in a writing whirlwind. It really is the original attempt at ‘Stuff I’ve Learnt in <insert location here>’ blogging. So here it is, in all its virgin glory. Stuff I’ve Learnt in New York:
I came with expectations that NYC is where dreams come true. I was right. I like being right.
I took a bite out of NYC; it bitch slapped me in the face with a slice of 99c pizza at midnight.
It’s like I’m constantly walking around in a movie set.
There’s an eclectic mix of people and culture, but it strangely works; like when you have banana, bacon and maple syrup pancakes.
Some people wear their important pants, others just wear pants.
There’s no greater compliment than one about the skirt you’re wearing, when perusing through a 5th Avenue store.
Self-restraint and budgeting have gone out the window.
Apparently I’m anything from British to Australian and my accent is cute.
There are many ways you can write my name, even when I’ve spelled it out. Maybe I need to adopt a Rhode Island drawn-out slur?
The only thing I attribute to not putting on cupcake weight is the severe amount of walking the Manhattan grid.
Hotdogs can be eaten excessively and competitively. You simultaneously cheer and cringe for the contestants.
And there it is… the beginning of my musings of stuff I have learnt in overseas locations, with an unexpected twist, found in the bottom drawer and delivered at the end of this year’s travels. Bet you didn’t see that coming… well, neither did I. Well played NJ, well played.
